6 Palestinians killed and dozens injured by Israeli forces during an incursion in Nablus

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Israeli forces stormed the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, resulting in the death of six Palestinians and the injury of 71 others, some of them critically. According to Reuters, the incursion was to arrest two young men, and the Al-Quds Brigades announced the death of the leader of the Nablus Battalion. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that they treated dozens of gunshot wounds and 250 cases of suffocation due to tear gas, which they were dealing with in the field, while Israeli forces continued to prevent crews from reaching some locations.

According to Al Jazeera, three journalists were also injured by Israeli gunfire while covering the incursion in Nablus. Witnesses reported that a large force of the Israeli army had invaded the city from several entrances. Special forces also stormed the eastern market area of the city and surrounded a house, followed by a large reinforcement from the army, with armed clashes taking place with Palestinian resistance fighters.

Later, Israeli media reported that the "wanted men" targeted in the military operation in Nablus had been "assassinated," and their bodies were identified among the rubble of the house that had been bombed. Meanwhile, Al-Quds Brigades announced the death of the leader of the Nablus Battalion, Mohammed Abu Bakr Junaidi.

In response to the Israeli escalation, the Al-Quds Brigades vowed to continue monitoring the "escalating crimes of the enemy," while the Palestinian presidency called on the US administration to "take immediate action and effective pressure on the Israeli government to stop its crimes." Israeli forces withdrew from the old town in Nablus, but continued to besiege some of its entrances.
